Corylus avellana Purple Umbrella 'JM 251' PBR
Corylus avellana Purple Umbrella is the first red-leaved hazel of weeping habit. It forms a small umbrella-shaped tree. Its height is determined by the size of a rootstock, onto which it was grafted.
Because of its size it is recommended to small backyard gardens. It can be planted as a solitary plant or in compositions with shrubs and perennials as a strong accent colour. It can be planted in plant pots.
The variety was obtained by Hungarian breeder – Józsa Miklós. Our Nursery purchased rights to this variety and introduced it to the market in 2015 under the trade name Purple Umbrella, which best reflects the plant’s look. It was awarded a bronze medal in the novelties contest at the "Green is Life" exhibition and a golden medal in the plant competition during "Flowers Expo" exhibition in Moscow in 2015.
