Picea pungens 'Compacta Pyramidalis'
Dwarfish variety with conical habit and slow growth. Initially it creates a dense shrub. It produces leader over time. Old trees are conical, very dense but irregular. Lateral branches are slightly pendant. Up to 2-3.5 m high and 0.8-1 m in diameter. Short blue grey needles with wax coating. Does not bear cones.Picea pungens 'Compacta Pyramidalis' is recommended to backyard gardens and parks. It can be planted separately or in small groups in lawns, flower beds or heathlands. It stands out from the compositions because of its nice and fixed color throughout the year.
The variety was named, described and introduced to trading in 1925 by Stefan Tokarz – he was managing the Nurseries in Podzamcze at that time. The plant has also a newer but improper name ‘Tokarz’.
