Quercus robur 'Jan Zamoyski'
This beautiful Polish variety of Quercus robur grows up to 8-10 m high. Leaves on secondary shoots – very long (even up to 25 cm long) and intensely white and cream variegated leaves, constitute the most significant decorative element. Bark of the shoots is olive green and cream yellow on the young and secondary shoots. The plant is completely frost hardy.Quercus robur 'Jan Zamoyski', because of its attractive leaves, is a valuable tree recommended to large gardens and parks. Due to its interesting history and connections with both famous nurseries and one of the most notable Polish aristocratic families, it can be used in historical compositions – in all places where not only esthetical qualities are significant.
The variety was found by Feliks Rożyński and introduced to trading in Nurseries in Podzamcze in 1903. It was discovered again in 2003 by Wiesław Gawryś and Bronisław Jan Szmit, thanks to which it is again available on the market.
